What is included in Free?

Free 1.1.0 provides country rules for WordPress pages, posts and post categories, a Country visibility block, two shortcodes, local country detection, Settings, Diagnostics and an Activity Log. It needs your own current licensed GeoLite2 Country database. Start here.

What does Pro add?

Pro 1.0.0 is a separate licensed plugin that adds WooCommerce product and product-category audiences with catalog, cart and checkout checks. It requires Free 1.1.0 or newer and WooCommerce. See the Pro guide and current plans. Planned add-ons on the roadmap are not included in Pro 1.0.0.

Do I need a MaxMind account or per-view credits?

You need a current licensed GeoLite2 Country file. You can maintain your own licensed private file or use your MaxMind account for the in-plugin download. Local visitor lookups do not use a hosted WPLocation credit balance. WPLocation is not currently selling managed lookup credits. How the data source works.

Can a country rule protect confidential content?

No. IP location is approximate, and feeds, APIs, files or caches may expose material outside the targeted page view. Use a real authentication and authorization system for confidential content.

What happens when location is unknown?

Actively restricted content is hidden. Unrestricted content stays available. A blocked singular Free page or post uses the theme’s 404 response. See blocked-content behavior.

Will it work with my cache or CDN?

Do not assume it will. A shared cache can serve one visitor’s HTML to another before WordPress runs. Exclude targeted pages or configure and verify country-aware cache variants. Use the cache checklist.

Can I target a city, GPS location, or a region group?

The current Free and Pro releases target countries using a local Country database. City, GPS and reusable region-group controls are not part of these releases. Check the roadmap for planned work, and do not buy a current plan expecting an unreleased feature.

Where do I start when a rule looks wrong?

Check the data source in Diagnostics, check the saved rule for two countries, then test the public URL after purging caches. The troubleshooting guide lists the exact steps and what to send support.

Do I need to activate both Free and Pro?

Yes, when using Pro. Free supplies country detection and content rules; Pro adds WooCommerce controls. Keep both active. Free alone needs no paid WPLocation key.

Which license key goes where?

Your MaxMind account ID and key go in WPLocation → Settings for database downloads. Your WPLocation purchase key goes in WPLocation → Overview → Your Pro license (or Product rules with directory Free) → Manage License. Follow Pro activation steps.

What happens if I cancel or the license expires?

Cancel future subscription renewals in My Account. The current paid license term continues; after expiry, installed targeting rules continue working, but updates and support require an active entitlement. Removing Free or Pro stops Pro enforcement, so keep both active.
