An optional managed service concept

Managed Lookup Credits

A managed country source, with usage you can understand.

Explore a hosted lookup option for sites that prefer not to maintain a local country database. Managed Lookup Credits would be optional and separate from software licensing.

A proposed workflow

  1. 01

    Connect and set limits

Choose the service and a clear usage cap.

  2. 02

    Test the fallback

Check what happens when a lookup cannot complete.

  3. 03

    Monitor usage

Review balance, recent usage and low-balance alerts.

Illustrative workflow, not a current plugin interface.

What we are considering

A closer look at the idea.

Sites that need a managed country source, explicit spending controls and a predictable fallback when the service cannot answer.

01 / PROPOSED

Visible usage and balance

A dashboard for purchased credits, recent usage and low-balance alerts.

02 / PROPOSED

Defined billable lookups

The proposal counts successful, uncached lookups only. Local lookups, cache hits, failed requests and retries would not consume credits; unit sizes and prices must be published before launch.

03 / PROPOSED

Explicit fallback behavior

Choose a configured local database or an unknown-country result if the service is unavailable.

04 / PROPOSED

Spending controls

Separate cache and usage settings. Any automatic top-up would require a distinct opt-in and a spending cap.

An example use case

A site could opt into hosted lookups with a usage cap and fall back to its own current local database if the managed service is unavailable.

Proposed service

Managed service

Managed Lookup Credits would change how a country is resolved, not which content or products can be targeted. It would be a usage-based service, separate from Free, Pro and add-on software.

Requirements and boundaries

Know the scope
before you plan.

Proposed service only: no hosted endpoint, credit package or purchase is available. Local country lookup would continue without WPLocation credits. Lifetime software plans exclude managed credits and usage-based services.

Current Pro requirements →

What needs to be tested

Before launch, the service needs suitable data rights, tested availability and published pricing, billing rules, retention and data-handling terms. IP location remains approximate.

Questions, answered

A clear path forward.

Will I need credits to keep using Free or Pro?

No. The current plugins use your configured local country source without WPLocation lookup credits. This proposed service would be an optional alternative, with separate usage pricing.

Can I buy or download this now?

No. This is a roadmap concept, not a released product or purchase offer. Final scope, dependencies, compatibility, pricing and release dates remain to be confirmed.

How would licensing and Lifetime coverage work?

Managed credits and usage-based services are separate from both lifetime software plans. No price, billing unit or launch date has been announced.
